String lights and outdoor fittings illuminating a terrace at dusk

Outdoor electrical work has to survive the monsoon, the summer heat and the salt in the coastal air. Fittings that are fine indoors fail outside within a season. We use gear rated for the conditions, protect every connection, and put the switching where you will actually use it.

Built for Surat weather

The three things that kill outdoor fittings here are water ingress, UV on plastic parts, and corrosion at terminals. A fitting with a proper IP rating, a gasket that is actually seated, and a gland on the cable entry deals with all three.

We also think about where water goes rather than only where it falls. Junctions sit above splash level, cable enters fittings from below wherever possible, and nothing important lives at the low point of a terrace where the water pools.

  • IP65 or better for anything genuinely exposed
  • Glands and gaskets fitted properly, not just present in the box
  • Junctions mounted above the flood line, never on the floor
  • Stainless or coated fixings that will not bleed rust down the wall
  • Cable in conduit where it runs across an open surface

Control that makes sense

The best outdoor lighting is the kind you never have to think about. A dusk-to-dawn sensor on gate and path lighting means they come on when they are needed without anyone remembering. A motion sensor on a driveway or a rear terrace gives you light where you walk without leaving it burning all night.

For decorative or terrace lighting that you only want occasionally, a switch inside the house is better than a sensor. We will ask how you actually use the space before specifying anything.

Every outdoor circuit should sit behind an RCCB. Outdoors is where water, metal and people meet, and earth leakage protection is what makes that combination survivable.

Societies and shared areas

We do a fair amount of common-area work for apartment societies — stairwell lighting, parking and compound lights, gate and entrance illumination, and the perennial problem of a circuit that trips whenever it rains.

For committees, we are happy to walk the site, write down what needs doing and quote it item by item so it can be taken to a meeting rather than agreed on the spot.

Questions

Outdoor Lighting questions we are asked most

Will outdoor lights survive the monsoon?

Properly rated fittings, installed with the gland and gasket done correctly, will. Most outdoor failures we are called to are a rating or an installation shortcut rather than the weather being unreasonable.

Can you install motion sensor lights?

Yes, and we set the sensitivity and timing on site so the light does not trigger on every passing cat or stay on for ten minutes.

Do you do apartment society common areas?

Yes. We can survey the whole property and provide an itemised quotation suitable for a committee to review.

My terrace circuit trips when it rains. Can that be fixed?

Almost always. Rain-only tripping means water is reaching a fitting or a joint. We find where and seal or replace it rather than disabling the protection.
