LED Light Installation in Surat

Old tube lights and halogens swapped for LED panels, downlights and strips — chosen for the right brightness and colour, not just wattage.

Switching a house over to LED is one of the few upgrades that pays for itself and improves the room at the same time. Done carelessly, though, it produces glare, patchy colour and lights that fail in a year. The difference is in choosing the right output and colour temperature and in wiring the drivers properly.

Lumens matter, watts do not

Wattage told you something useful when every bulb was a filament. With LED it only tells you how much power the fitting draws. Brightness is measured in lumens, and two 9-watt LED bulbs from different makers can differ by a third in actual output.

As a rough guide, a bedroom is comfortable at around 100 to 150 lumens per square metre, a living room a little higher, and a kitchen counter or study desk needs noticeably more. We work from the room rather than from a number on a box.

  • Bedrooms: warm white around 2700–3000K for a restful feel
  • Living rooms: 3000–4000K, layered rather than one bright source
  • Kitchens and study areas: 4000K with focused task light where it is needed
  • Bathrooms: 4000K with fittings rated for damp conditions
  • Keep one colour temperature per room — mixed light looks wrong immediately

Why cheap LEDs fail early

An LED chip will run for years. The driver behind it often will not. Most premature failures we replace are driver failures, usually caused by heat with no path out of a sealed fitting or by a driver built down to a price.

Voltage fluctuation is the other common killer, and it is a real factor in parts of Surat. A fitting with a decent wide-range driver survives that; a bargain one does not. We would rather fit fewer, better lights than come back to replace cheap ones every season.

If several LED lights in the same room have failed within a year, the problem is usually supply quality or heat build-up rather than bad luck. It is worth checking before buying another set.

Converting existing fittings

Old tube light fittings can often be converted rather than thrown away, which keeps a familiar fitting and avoids new holes in the ceiling. The starter and choke are removed and the tube holders rewired for a direct-supply LED tube.

That conversion has to be done properly — a half-converted fitting with the choke left in circuit is a fire risk and will shorten the tube's life. We do the full conversion or we fit a new unit; we do not leave it halfway.

Questions

LED Lighting questions we are asked most

Will LED really cut my bill?

For lighting, yes and noticeably — an LED typically uses around a fifth of what an equivalent incandescent did and well under half of a tube light plus choke. Lighting is only part of your total bill, so the saving is real but not dramatic unless you had a lot of old fittings.

Which colour temperature should I choose?

Warm white for bedrooms and living rooms, neutral or cool white for kitchens, bathrooms and work areas. The important thing is to keep one temperature consistent within each room.

Can you convert my old tube light fittings?

In most cases yes. We remove the choke and starter and rewire the holders for a direct LED tube, which is safer and more efficient than leaving the old gear in circuit.

My LED lights hum. Is that normal?

No. Humming usually means the driver is being run on an unsuitable dimmer or is undersized for the load. Both are fixable.
